Posted 11/4/2009 9:00:00 AM
I have had enough over the weeks. I told you about the high school in Chicago with over 100 pregnant girls. I was shocked last week when a cat who is 112 years old with a bride who is just 17.Now, we learn of an 11-year-old girl who has entered the history books by becoming one of the world's youngest mothers - and went into labor on the way to her wedding! (Sidebar: who let you get hemmed up?)
Kordeza Zhelyazkova, from Slive, Bulgaria, was still wearing her wedding dress and tiara as she was rushed to hospital, where she gave birth to 5lb 8oz Violeta, according to News of the World ."It feels strange to be a mum and have a baby," Kordeza, who became pregnant two weeks after her 11th birthday said. One Year Ago, History Was Made
Posted 11/3/2009 10:20:00 AM
A year ago people were making sure that their vote counted. It was excitement and fervor as a change was anticipated. Though the memory is in my mind as if it just happened yesterday, it has been a whole year since the White House got some color in its' leadership. November 4, 2008 President Barack Obama made history as the first African American president.
Beyond the color of his skin, this presidency has displayed many significant factors - especially for black families. This president has challenged our brothers to be better fathers. His wife is a true partner, not the stereotype of black family drama that some buy into as solid truth. (Sidebar: ALL families have their own issues regardless of race, right?) We see a man whose white single mother was dedicated to his success. Yet, he was able to embrace both sides of his life and face the ...

Thomas Marasciullo claims in a federal lawsuit that Weezy and Birdman stole his voice and used it on two CDs. Ol boy says he recorded some "Italian-styled" spoken words for Cash Money Records in 2006 but was never paid or told how the recordings were to be used, a lawsuit filed yesterday in Manhattan Federal Court claims. "Like Father, Like Son" came out in October 2006 with Marasciullo's recordings on it, the suit says. In December 2007, Birdman and Lil Wayne released a CD again with Marasciullo's voice, the lawsuit says. SO you know he wanna get paid right? No comment from Cash Money yet.
BV Buzz dropped dime that Solange Knowles is no longer signed to Interscope/Geffen Records. BV Buzz’s previous story, back in April, caused backlash from both Solange and her pops Mathew Knowles with them denying it. But now Music World Entertainment says: “Solange felt it necessary ...

Secrets, comedian Chris Rock declares are bad for the human spirit. That's why Good Hair is airing out some of our hairy secrets.
In Good Hair, Rock sets out to explore the historical concept of "good hair." While some think he is putting business out in the streets, Chris tackles the issue head on. Will you see it? Listen in as Chris talks briefly about the flick, "Good Hair".
Your Hair...Or Your Health?
Posted 10/23/2009 8:00:00 AM
Of course, the flick "Good Hair" hits local theaters today. But how many women have the good hair but are in bad physical shape? I am not talking about being skinny but physical inactivity puts us at high risks for many health conditions. From cancers to stroke, lack of excercise can have a negative impact on your life. But yes...I know you just got your hair done, right?
Are you guilty of skipping exercise in the name of maintaining your hairstyle? About a third of Black women cite complications of hair care as the reason they do not exercise or exercise less than needed. In fact, I remember a friend of mine wanting to get in tip-top shape. When I told her start going to the gym, she exclaimed, "What about my hair?!"
Of course as women we want to keep our hair at its' best. But what ...
115 Girls Pregnant - At ONE School!
Posted 10/17/2009 10:40:00 AM
As a married grown woman, I know the stress of motherhood. Everything from finances, to sickness to everyday responsibility is no joke. I applaud my single mothers who struggle to maintain - especially my younger sisters. Having kids when you are barely grown is hard and requires a strong support system, determination and sacrifice. That is true at any age but even more detrimental for teen moms. I remember a friend of mine got pregnant really young. She made a vow after that she would have no more kids until she got married. It was hard to be 15 and be a mother. Thank God she kept that vow. Now, she has an amazing family though in early years she struggled.
While we don't want to make teens who find themselves pregnant feel condemned and hopeless, we do need to emphasize the seriousness of becoming a teen parent. Nor should ...

I may have been in the streets but I won't leave ya without some entertainment juice! Hand me your glass - I am about to pour!
Reports are circulating that Sickle Cell Anemia may have played a big part in the death of Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, the ex-fiancé of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burress. Fulton County Associate Medical Examiner Dr. Kelly Rose tells TMZ preliminary autopsy results led her to believe that A.J., who died two weeks ago after a strip club brawl, suffered from the blood disorder. Dr. Rose says it’s most likely that because of his condition, it’s probable that he couldn’t replenish the oxygen he lost during the incident … which could have fatal consequences. Stay tuned.

Even Black Barbie Is Having a Hair Battle!
Posted 10/14/2009 11:10:00 AM
I had a Christie Barbie - you know, Barbie's black BFF. Though she was a woman of color, Christie did not look like me or any of the girls I saw in my family. Just in time for the holidays, Mattel launched a new line of black Barbie
dolls with fuller lips, a wider nose and more pronounced cheekbones — a
far cry from Christie! (Sidebar: She was essentially a white doll painted brown. Really.)
Anyhoo, the "So In Style" line hit mass retailers last month. Barbie designer Stacey McBride-Irby, who is
black and has a 6-year-old daughter, said she wanted to create a line
of dolls for young black girls that looked like them. Plus, these sistas are
inspirational and career-minded! I love it because our girls need to see images they can relate to and promote healthy esteem. I can get these dolls for my nieces and there ...
