I promised you pictures of the 2010 Ruskin Talent Show produced by Senior Jordan Williams, hosted by students Mar'Quita Dixon, LaKeitha Boston, Jason Long and Co-hosted by Julee Jonez and Brian B Shynin of Hot 103 Jamz. "It was the best show ever!" That's what I heard from the students that attended. From acts that could appear on ABDC on MTV along with the Rap groups that performed to a Violinist playing the hits you hear on Hot 103 Jamz.  You should have been there!

NABJ Congratulates NAACP on its 100th Anniversary Commemoration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 17, 2009 – On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the National Association of Black Journalists, (NABJ) extends its congratulations and appreciation for the great work the organization has done to achieve a shared mission.

“Few organizations can achieve a centenarian milestone, fewer still can make such a broad and wide-ranging impact on the livelihood of African Americans and other people of color as the NAACP has,” said NABJ President Barbara Ciara. “One hundred years of fighting oppression is a long time; though the journey is not over, we praise the vitality and commitment of the NAACP leadership to confront a new era and new challenges facing people of color in America.”

Reminisce with ya Sista Girl Robyn Knight

Posted 5/21/2009 7:45:00 PM
As I get older I tend to reminisce a lot more about the good ole days “Reminisce on the love we had….” sorry got carried away. In my reminiscing I find that it is caused by change which “Change Gone Come” no matter how bad you don’t want it to. On a recent journey to Worlds of Fun, with the students of Smith Hale’s 8th grade graduation class of 2013, I realized that a sista girl is getting to old for this kind of activities, but still remember many fun times I had there in the past. I miss the Zambezi Zinger so much, and not just because it was fun to ride with a boy, that was a really cool ride. This year the new attraction the Prowler is off the chain. We rode it multiple times. Of course the prices of funnel cakes has risen as well as ...

Bannister Mall Memories

Posted 3/15/2009 1:00:00 PM
I can't help but get sad every time I pass Bannister Mall on 435. Seeing all the history being destroyed saddens me. I know that the improvements are going to benefit the area of South side Kansas City, MO and possibly start new memories for others like Bannister Mall did for all of us. I just didn't think it would be so hard to drive pass there every morning and feel the pain of my memories going away. It's also a good thing that I have fond memories of Bannister Mall so lets see where do I start....... Taking pictures with Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny every year. Hello Kitty was the store until Mr. Bulky's came in and took over. One hour photo, now looking back at those pictures they are to funny. The movies was the place to be even if you had to have a parent ...

Dear Editor:

I'm trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy?
