When I heard the news of the passing of Ron Banks of The Dramatics, I got a lump in my throat knowing I would be the one to have to tell you the Hot 103 listener, the SAD news. Just like other entertainers that I've met in my radio career, Ron Banks was a friend. The many times that The Dramatics would come to Kansas City to perform, I got to know Ron. I can remember one time when they were here for Chris King's Chartbuster concert series, I joked with him and said......man if you ever left The Dramatics they would not be able to replace your voice. He laughed and kindly said thanks for the compliment. You could tell when he went solo for a few years. After watching The Grammys the other night, I asked myself the question....what direction is today's music headed in? When I saw Taylor Swift walk away with the "Album Of The Year" beating out Beyonce', The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, and The Dave Mathews Band made me wonder what's really going on in the music industry. Did she really deserve the 8 nominations and the 4 Grammys Awards that she won? Maybe, (the best country album) maybe not. Some may asked the same question about Beyonce'. Most people think that this was a sympathy night for Taylor Swift. Well, we all know what happened with her and Kayne West at the last award show. I ask this question because of what happened on a recent United Airlines flight flying from Washington to Vegas that was diverted to Denver due to an unruley passenger. See story below.

After seeing all the videos, pictures and images from the devastating earthquake in Haiti, we should all be thankful for what we got. For years, those people in Haiti have been dealing with poverty, far worse than any of us have had to deal with. They've had to deal with conditions that we can only imagine, and now, to think they were hit with an earthquake that will leave them having to rebuild their country. It reminds me of what New Orleans and it's surrounding areas are still trying to bounce back from after Katrina. I feel fortunate that I could give and help out with the relief fund. If you have anything to give, please help out. For one US $1 it equates to $25 there. So we really have it good..The next time you Bitch about what you don't have....think about what the folks in Haiti...may have NEVER ...

Christmas is a very special holiday, it's the time of year when family and others go out of their way to shower each other with gifts. Rushing to get that last minute shopping in, have we really forgot the reason for CHRISTMAS? Remember.....JESUS IS THE REASON!!!!!! This past weekend was our 16th Annual Toy & Food Drive and I want to THANK each and every one of you that came out to support us. With your support we will help Harvesters Food Network feed many families for the holidays and will put many smiles on a lot of faces with toys from the Marines Toy 4 Tots program. These kids will have an enjoyable Christmas because of you. Everything we collected stays here in Kansas City. One thing that amazes me is that, people come up and say "I'm not doing that great myself, but I just want to help out". That lets me know that when it comes to helping out people in need in Kansas City, we care about each other. Check out pictures on kprs.com. Again,

This weekend I will begin my 16th Annual Toy & Food Drive. It will take place at the Wal-Mart Super Center at I-70 and 40 Highway. Fri. 6am-1am, Sat. 6am-1am and Sun. 6am -12 Noon. With the help of my co-workers, our on air personalities and YOU Kansas City, we have helped The Harvesters Food Network supply many meals to those that are less fortunate over the years. We have helped The Marines distribute over 30,000 toys to their Toys For Tots program. THANK YOU! As I was sitting back making a check list for the toy & food drive to make sure we have everything we need on location, I could'nt help to think, with the way the economy is, and people out of work, "what else can we do to help those that are less fortunate". Well, all we can do is continue to stay COMMITTED to helping those in need, and again Kansas ...

Since pro golfer Tiger Woods had his accident outside his Florida home, he has not talked to the police. He has only posted on his website stating "This is a family matter, and we wish to keep it that way". Well, let that be an average person, black or white, you or me and not an athlete, they would be all over us trying to find out what happened during the accident. Now only citing Tiger with careless driving...the question is...WHAT IS TIGER WOODS HIDING? Well, we may soon find out. I have been a DIE hard Chiefs fan as long as I can remember, but recently I've been thinking what other team can I call my team. What happened to those days at Arrowhead when NO ONE could come in hear and leave with a win. Yeah, everyone called for "KING" Carl Peterson to go, well as the saying goes, "be careful what you ask for". Things did get bad during the last few years that Carl Peterson was here, but I've NEVER seen it this BAD. Now with the new GM and HEAD coach things will get worse before they get better. Coach Todd Haley made a comment earlier in the season that he could take 22 people off the street and win two games like last years team. Well, let's hope he can improve that record because the Chiefs got LUCKY in Sundays win over Oakland, and with the schedule they have coming ...
