Kansas Relays | Grandview's James White sets high-jump mark

LAWRENCE | The height of 7 feet, 3 inches weighed on James White’s mind
all week. White knew, to take the boys’ high-jump record at the Kansas
Relays, he would have to clear that much.
So
as White, the Grandview junior leaper, paused on the red track infield,
the competition long gone, ceding him the runaway victory and the
scattered fans around Memorial Stadium rising to their feet
anticipating history on Friday morning, he thought about the height one
more time. Two attempts later, White rewrote the record books with a
winning leap of 7-3¼, shattering the previous mark set in 1995.
