Camp C.H.O.I.C.E Sip & Shop Fundraiser RE-CAP!

Most important question first!…

Did you raise enough money for Camp
C.H.O.I.C.E May 2017?*

No, we did not raise enough funds to cover camp, but we are not done!
Our next fundraiser is “Cops for Camp C.H.O.I.C.E”, where we will solicit to
help of at least 40 police officers to sponsor a teen. I believe this
effort will generate the funds needed to book camp for May 2017!

How can the public continue to contribute to Camp C.H.O.I.C.E?

The public can make a non-tax deductible gift via the website,
www.campchoicekc.com, or mail it to PO Box 320601, KCMO 64132. It is
$150 to sponsor a teen, but any amount given is treasured, as we never
turn youth away due to lack of finances.

What made you launch Camp C.H.O.I.C.E?

I developed Camp C.H.O.I.C.E (Children Having Opportunities In Creating
Environment) as a mock business in 2000 through the Entrepreneurship
Awareness Program, sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation & Penn Valley
Community College.

I had never thought about being an entrepreneur
prior to this experience, and after all the heart & hard work I put
into developing the plan, it became real for me.

The concept came to me through prayer, and my experience of losing my mother at 15, and
becoming a single mother, living on public assistance. It was hard, and
I made many poor choices. I didn’t want other youth to make the same
mistakes.

So I created a fun way to help them understand what adult
life is really about. Ever since then, I’ve been working to grow Camp C.H.O.I.C.E. It’s been a
long and difficult journey, but our youth are well worth it!

What do you feel the kids take with them after leaving Camp C.H.O.I.C.E” Game
of Life” Weekend Adventures May 2017?

Allows youth ages 14-18 the opportunity to experience an adult life simulations.
They walk away understanding how to manage a budget, and what needs vs. wants are.

They have the opportunity to connect how choices directly relate to
life circumstances, and how sometimes our circumstances are a result of
something out of our own control, but we always have a choice of how we
will deal with them.

Youth engage is discussions on evolution, race, family, finances, the
future, etc. Camp C.H.O.I.C.E provides healthy and delicious meals that are
demonstrated to the youth, and they receive recipe cards. They also
have fun physical fitness training Saturday &
Sunday mornings.

What are some of the teens reactions after attending Camp C.H.O.I.C.E?

“One of the best experiences in life!” Teens report they wish the camp was longer, and many of them return.

Are you taking volunteers for Camp C.H.O.I.C.E in May?

Yes, volunteers are always needed. We have 20 boys & 20 girls at camp,
and need 8 men & 8 women, ages 21 to serve. The volunteer roles
include, C.H.O.I.C.E Advocates, Game of Life Coaches, and Employment &
Career Specialist. All our volunteers receive training, and are
background checked.

How can a teenager sign up for Camp C.H.O.I.C.E?

Teens can call me at (816) 560-0977, or contact me via the website to
express their interest. Once we begin registration, they will be
contacted.

A parent/guardian, along with the teen must attend our registration meeting, when scheduled. The fee is $150; however, we do not turn youth away due to lack of finances, so we will work with
families needing assistance.
