National Mentoring Month: Interview with Grads Of Life

Last week, Julee Jonez sat down with Grads Of Life to talk about their campaign and National Mentoring Month. Listen to the full interview above!

Did you know January is National Mentoring Month? The ‘campaign celebrates menoring and the positive effect it can have on young lives’ according to The National Mentoring Partnership; the campagins’ goals are to raise awareness of mentoring,  recruit indviduals to mentor-especially in programs with waitlisted youth, and promote the growth of menorting byfinding organizations to engage their members in menoring.

There are many ways to get involved in National Mentoring Month, one program, Grads Of Life aims to change the perception employers have of opportunity youth by connecting youth and employers. Over 6.7 million 16-24 year olds are out of work and out of school, this group often called “opportunity youth,” represent an untapped opportunity for employers to connect with millions of talented workers at a time when the skills gap is significant,  with more than 3.4 million open positions because employers cannot find workers with the skills these jobs require. Grads Of Life specifically functions to bridge this gap.

“Lots of people probably can hear for themselves that may be in fact a graduate of life, that they are somebody who  has a high school diploma but does not have a bachelors degree or an associates degree but still has a lot to offer to employers…”
