The Soul Train Music Awards celebrated 30 years of “peace, love and soul” at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas last night (November 26th), with Erykah Badu as the host for the third year in a row. The award show honored two trailblazers of R&B music in the ’90s, Toni Braxton and SWV. Toni received one of the top honors of the night, the Legend Award.
Following her tribute, she performed hits like “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” and “You’re Makin’ Me High.”
Meanwhile, SWV took home their very first award after 25 years in the game, the Lady of Soul Award.
The ’90s trio went through their discography and performed “I’m So Into You,” “Right Here” and a host of other hits.
Other winners included Ledisi and Bell Biv DeVoe, who tied for the Soul Train Certified Award, SZA — who won Best New Artist and Best R&B/Soul Female Artist and Bruno Mars who won Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Video of the Year, Album/Mixtape of the Year, Song of the Year Best Dance Performance. Neither SZA nor Bruno were present at the event.
