What started off as an idea to bring women together to learn more about GirlTrek, has blossomed into Black Women Get Fit — an annual health and wellness event. Founded by Terri Barnes, she realized many Black women had little to no exposure to the myriad of exercise choices available to them. She looked to fill that need, setting up the previous Black Women Get Fit like a pub crawl in the 18th & Vine District! Over 400 women gathered and were given access to participate in a series of demonstration sessions, interactive conversations and more with local health/ wellness professionals.

This year, the experience continues.

The 4th annual Black Women Get Fit goes down, Saturday, October 2nd at Swope Park Bandstand and the Southeast Community Center. There will be over 20 different demonstration sessions offering everything from Tai Chi, Yoga, Tabata, African Dance, Cardio Kickbox to Xtreme Hip Hop. Additionally, there will be workshops on mental health, faith and more. Founder Terri Barnes discusses this event – and why Black women need to be there.
