Meek Mill, co-founder of the social justice organization REFORM alliance, paid the bail of 20 women in jail so they could be home with their families for holidays. The Philly native took to Instagram to confirm that he posted bail for several incarcerated women which allowed them to be released to their families on Christmas Eve. REFORM alliance also tweeted: “#Meekmill has made a heartwarming holiday gesture by paying the bail of women currently incarcerated in Philadelphia.” According to the Philly Voice, Meek paid to help free 20 women from Riverside Correctional Facility with another 15 who will be released next week. Each of the women who were released also received a gift card to buy groceries or Christmas gifts.
Mill said in a a press release: “It was devastating for me to be away from my son during the holidays when I was incarcerated. So I understand what these women and their families are going through. No one should have to spend the holidays in jail simply because they can’t afford bail. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help these women be with their families and loved ones during this special time of year.”
Mill co-founded REFORM Alliance with Michael Rubin, “JAY-Z” , Robert Kraft, and others in 2018. He has subsequently helped to pass 16 measures in 10 states, aiming for “better neighborhoods, better family, and enhanced public health and safety for all,” according to a press statement.
