Join the Kansas Birth Equity Network in person or via Zoom for a conversation on Black Maternal Health and Birth Equity, as we celebrate Black Maternal Health Week. BMHW founded and led by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, takes place each year April 11-17.
This week was designated to bring attention and action to improve Black maternal health.

Each year in the U.S., hundreds of women die during pregnancy, giving birth or within a year afterwards. For Black women, the numbers are even more staggering: Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than White women. Factors that contribute to this alarming disparity include the lack of access to quality healthcare, structural racism, medical bias and underlying health conditions.

That’s why dialogue about this important issue matters. This Saturday, the Kansas Birth Equity Network is hosting a conversation on Black Maternal Health and Birth Equity at Memorial Hall, 600 North 7th Street Trafficway in KCK from 11am – 1pm. Listen in as Lawrence Commissioner Amber Sellers shares more about this topic and event.
