Brothers Liberating Our Communities (BLOC) is a 501c3 working to increase the number of Black Male Educators in the Kansas City education ecosystem. Studies show the positive impact of a Black student having just one single Black male teacher can have on their educational journey.
Recently, the organization was awarded national recognition for their innovation in education. This award, The Yass Prize, is a one million dollar award for S.T.O.P. education organizations, i.e. educational systems that are Sustainable, Transformative, Outstanding, and Permissionless. Out of 2,000 applications across the country, BLOC has been named one of the top 32.
This is where KC’s help comes in! BLOC is the only organization it the state of Missouri who is represented in this award. If you are 18 and understand the impact of Black men in schools, you are eligible to vote every day for BLOC in the Parent Choice Awards. This additional award carries another $100,000 prize that will go directly to supporting, sustaining, and retaining Black men in the education field. Listen in as Cornell Ellis, the founder and Executive Director of BLOC shares more.
