
The American Heart Association announced in October the expansion of its impactful Libraries with Heart initiative to Mid-Continent Public Library (MCPL). This program features blood pressure kiosks at various locations, allowing patrons to check their blood pressure and receive a printed reading to discuss with their primary care provider. While regular blood pressure checks are necessary, it’s even more imperative this time of year as more people die of heart attacks from Christmas to New Year’s than any other time of year due to stress, poor eating habits, less sleep, more alcohol and other issues.
