Bishop Sullivan Center still follows the purpose set when created in 1972. Back then, it was called Cooperative Social Services. Three Catholic parishes in the Historic Northeast area of Kansas City, Missouri, created the Center in response to the growing number of their neighbors in financial hardship. In 1994, it was named after Bishop John Sullivan, a former bishop of the Kansas City-St. Joseph Catholic Diocese, who was particularly concerned about and dedicated to the poor.

All of their programs support three pillars: food, job and aid. While the Center began with one food pantry, it has expanded to two locations with multiple programs including One City Café, Employment Services, household assistance, a clothes closet, Access KC (formerly KC Medicine Cabinet), and more. Supporting their efforts through volunteerism, donations and participating in other outreach events help keep the needs going for those who are served. One way to do so is coming out for Hustle For The Neighborhood!

Hustle for the Neighborhood takes place on Friday, April 4.This year’s spring fundraising event will be a celebration featuring samplings of locally crafted foods, a live and silent auction, updates on your impact, and a 70’s Prom Party featuring The Saucy Jack Band and more. Hannah Brockway, Director of Operations & Outreach, shares all the deets.
